Support secured

Women’s support centre is open

By Staff Reports

The Southern Downs Women’s Support Centre is open and ready to help, following the transition from the Protea Place pilot project.

Their vision is for “Connecting vulnerable women so they believe they matter.” The "mission" is to "provide a safe and welcoming environment for vulnerable women who may be experiencing homelessness or disadvantage".

"This is a place of safety, dignity and acceptance that will empower women to rebuild and transform their lives," a spokesperson said. "(It is) a home-like drop-in centre where women are encouraged to self-determine through connection and support.”

Workers have further confirmed that "this project is open and qualified staff and volunteers are waiting to serve vulnerable women in the Warwick community".

Their opening hours at the 37 Guy Street, Warwick, facility are 9am to 2pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. A contact number is 4574 4876.

While the service is in the caretaking of the Uniting Church for up to six months, legal requirements, new registration, and branding are "being finalised to future-proof the provision of this community service, and new opportunities are being explored with the local community to enable this service to continue to provide support and assistance to local vulnerable women".
