Over the Australia Day long weekend, the Tenterfield Bowling Club hosted their annual Australia Day Carnival. The carnival went over all three days of the long weekend with a Fours competition on Saturday, a 3 Bowl Pairs competition on Sunday and a 3 Bowl Triple competition on Monday. The carnival was well attended by bowlers from Drayton, Tannymorel, Toowoomba, Millmerran, The Summit, Coolangatta and Stanthorpe in Queensland and Yamba, Coraki, Grafton, Ocean Shores, Moree, Glen Innes and Park Beach in New South Wales. All these bowlers were joined by the local bowlers from Tenterfield. This support from a very large area meant that on all three days the greens were almost filled.
The level of competition each day was intense with a very high standard of bowls being exhibited. This, coupled with the spirit and sportsmanship in which all games were played, made for a most successful weekend. The Greenkeeper, Cameron Carlysle, deserves special mention for the quality and standard of greens that were presented over the weekend.
The overall winners on each day were:
Saturday - Fours - Jo Worsley, Lorraine Blane, Fuzz Zimmerman and Denise Parkinson from Toowoomba;
Sunday - 3 Bowl Pairs - Terry Stanfield and Mick Herring from Ocean Shores; and
Monday - 3 Bowl Triples - Dale Callaghan, Frank Taylor and Elana Scott from The Summit and Tenterfield.
Well done Tenterfield Bowling Club and organisers!
