Staff Report

The Town & Country Journal reports that the Uniting Church was "saddened to hear of the closure of Protea Place, Warwick". Their media further stated they "had no knowledge of the decision by Protea Place prior to last Thursday, 20 June".

"We honour the work, support and generosity of the local community, business and corporate sponsors, the Uniting Church and the Warwick congregation for the last twelve months of this venture," a statement said. "We are committed to working with the local community to explore options for ongoing support."

Protea Place's Chief Executive Officer, Amanda Dalton announced the closure via Facebook following 12 months of operation in Warwick.

Our investigations understand many local meetings, with interested parties and Southern Down Regional Council, have occurred within the last week and that that 12-month period was considered a "pilot".

As our Stanthorpe Record newspaper reported on June 9, 2023, Protea Place received assistance from several locals and businesses across the Southern Downs including service clubs, churches, and SDIEA trainees who donated their time for the facility's upgrade.

While the community are somewhat confused about the future of support of domestic violence sufferers in the region, as well as the outcome of donations, we will report more as it comes to hand.
