Stanthorpe has waited patiently for the restoration of the local library and art gallery and will soon be back through the doors, a whole lot more vibrant and well preserved this time.

Southern Downs Regional Council confirmed library facilities will resume in the renovated space on July 8 while our newspaper has been unofficially told of an opening on August 18 for the precinct.

Southern Downs Regional Mayor Melissa Hamilton said staff and the community are "very excited about this new chapter for our Stanthorpe Library".

She thanks the community for "patience and understanding" during the upgrades.

Further, Councillor Morwenna Harslett spoke of the community's "fortune" with the facility.

“The Stanthorpe Library offers our community more than just books and the facility is considered an essential community asset," Cr Harslett said.

“The expanded facility will offer a more versatile space for our growing region and foster a stronger sense of community, with the capacity for improved services and a larger area for the library’s extensive one million dollar book collection."

During the relocation, the community will still have access to online library services at https://southerndowns.spydus.com/

Interim library services at the Stanthorpe Council Administration Building will be closed from July 1 to July 6 while the library’s collection is relocated and the finishing touches are added to the upgraded facility, ready for the following Monday.
