The windfarm west of Warwick has us all fired up...but not by politics this time. The operation generated its first power on Friday, October 4. According to reports, 27 turbines are now connected to the grid and the electricity market, churning out power when the windspeed reaches about ten miles an hour, and doubling in output each time the wind doubles in speed. The towers will provide renewable electricity regardless of whether the sun is shining.
The joint venture between Acciona and Korean-owned Ark Energy hopes to double the volume of wind energy generated in Queensland by late 2025. Windfarms built on agricultural land are dividing opinions in Australia, however. In Queensland and across the country, farmers are resisting plans for growing and cropping land to become homes for wind turbines and solar panels. A number of Victorian dairy farmers have called for representation on negotiations for future clean-energy projects that impact food production.
