In a breath of fresh air for the Southern Downs, the progression of affordable housing remains on the radar of the Warwick Killarney Uniting Church, who have pioneered the provision of 10 units in Warwick and four in Killarney, all on church grounds.

Warwick instigator, Rev. Ansie Liebenberg said the new places to call home will add a much-needed boost to the local housing market, and credits the "teamwork" around her.

Ian Darnell, as the consulting building designer and town planner for the project, told The Town & Country Journal this week that the foundational "slabs" are in place in Killarney and the Warwick units "have most of the underground services done".

"There's much still to do in Warwick, like putting material in the ground," he told us. "They are starting the slabs this week."

Framework in Killarney is being added, likely as you are reading.

Mr Darnell said the housing provided on church land "will add some affordable housing stock to the region for people who have low-income and for people who are struggling to get accommodation".

Regional Housing Limited Incorporated, a not-for-profit supplier, will co-ordinate the service as they "aren't interested in large cities and have a very similar ethos to the church," the building designer said.

The Killarney units are being built by Rose City Constructions and the Warwick units by Activebuilt. Completion date for both projects is believed to be August.
